Recap

The B-Mets outplayed the host Portland Sea Dogs in nearly every facet of the game Tuesday night, which led to an easy 6-1 win in the series opener. Binghamton starter Gabriel Ynoa had his start bumped up a day after the promotion of Rainy Lara, and he settled in nicely after a bumpy start. Binghamton kept on attacking Tuesday night, but they were also aided by 4 Portland errors, which they took full advantage of (see full scoring highlights below). The Mets bullpen took over in the 8th and worked two scoreless innings, allowing only a walk, with Julian Hilario looking good as he closed things out.
After the Mets had handed him a 1-0 lead in the 1st, Ynoa allowed a homerun to the first Portland batter he’d face. The B-Mets jumped back out to a 2-1 lead in the 2nd, but then Portland came out and started the bottom of the 2nd with two straight singles. It looked like it might be a long night for Ynoa, but he’d snag a line drive comebacker from the next batter to start a double play, which started a streak of 15-straight batters retired from Ynoa. He wasn’t missing many bats (only 4 swinging strikes per gameday), but he wasn’t allowing hard contact either, and he continued to show better control than earlier in the season (1.1% BB-rate over his last 4 starts, 6.5% overall).
The series continues Wednesday night at 7:00 PM, with Luis Cessa scheduled to pitch for Binghamton.

Scoring Highlights

Gavin Cecchini led off the game with a double into the LF corner, and then scored on a double from Brock Peterson into the RF corner.

The B-Mets scored a run in the 2nd without the assistance of a hit, as the first two batters reached on errors (E4, E6), and then Carrillo came around to score on a groundout.

L.J. Mazzilli led off the 3rd with a single, and then scored when Michael Conforto’s single into right-center field was bobbled by Portland center fielder Dave Sappelt. Conforto would advance to 2B on the play, but was caught between 2B and 3B on a groundout to 3B one batter later. Josh Rodriguez followed with a double that advanced Brock to 3B, and then another E6 allowed Peterson to score.
