Mets Organizational Playoff Odds, 8/22

Reviewing the postseason chances for the Mets and their affiliates.

While the Mets still have about 6 weeks of baseball left, their minor league affiliates are closing in on their final 3 weeks, and all are in a good position to make a postseason run. I will be posting updates on what it will take for the Mets and their affiliates to make the postseason here.

New York Mets

Current record: 65-56, 1st place in the National League East division
Games ahead: 5 Games ahead of Washington
Elimination number: 37
Games remaining: 41
Path to the Postseason: Stay in 1st place. They would be 4.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs for the second wild card spot, so the division title is currently their best chance. gives them an 86% chance to make the playoffs.

Las Vegas 51s

Current record: 69-58, 1st place in the PCL Pacific Southern division
Games ahead: 0.5 Game ahead of El Paso
Elimination number: 18
Games remaining: 17
Path to the Postseason: Hold off the charging El Paso Chihuahuas. El Paso has made up more than 5 games over the past 2 weeks, but the division may come down to the 4 games left these two teams have against each other.

Binghamton Mets

Current record: 67-55, 2nd place in the EL Eastern division
Games ahead: 4 Games ahead of Trenton for a playoff spot, and 4 games behind Reading for 1st place
Elimination number: 16
Games remaining: 19
Path to the Postseason: Maintain their position among the top two spots within the division. Pedro Lopez has indicated that no help is coming from St. Lucie, but this team is full of minor league veterans, so they are well equipped for the run. It’s not the most exciting team of prospects within the system (although Gavin Cecchini might be the #1 prospect in the system by this offseason), but they have plenty of experience and desire to play.

St. Lucie Mets

Current record: 27-27, 4th place in the FSL South division (2nd half standings); 62-62 overall, 5th place in the division
Games behind: 10 Games behind
Elimination number: 5
Games remaining: 14
Path to the Postseason: Win out and hope the 3 teams ahead of them lose a lot.

Savannah Sand Gnats

Current record: 35-17, 1st place in the SAL Southern division (2nd half standings); 74-48 overall, 1st place in the division
Games ahead: 35 Games ahead of Asheville
Elimination number: 14
Games remaining: 17
Path to the Postseason: They clinched the first half playoff spot, but have a chance to sweep the division titles in their last season with Savannah.

Brooklyn Cyclones

Current record: 27-31, Last place in the NYPL McNamara division
Games behind: 2.5 Games behind both Staten Island and Aberdeen
Elimination number: 17
Games remaining: 17
Path to the Postseason: Start hitting. They are close, and there is plenty of time to make up the 2.5 games in the division, but their offense has been one of the worst in the minors all season, so they’ll need to step it up for Brooklyn to make a run. They are also only 4 games out of a wild card spot, but there are currently 6 teams in front of them in the wild card standings.

Kingsport Mets

Current record: 31-25, 1st place in the Appalachian League West division
Games ahead: 1 Game ahead of Elizabethton, 2 Games ahead of Greeneville, 4 Games ahead of Bristol, 5 Games ahead of Johnson City
Elimination number: 11
Games remaining: 11
Path to the Postseason: Maintain their position among the top two spots within the division.

GCL Mets

Current record: 26-28, 3rd place in the GCL East division
Games behind: 4 games behind the GCL Marlins and GCL Cardinals
Elimination number: 3
Games remaining: 6
Path to the Postseason: They had a chance to gain some ground on the GCL Cardinals this past week, but instead they lost some key games to the GCL Marlins, and now find themselves on the verge of elimination.

DSL Mets1

Current record: 33-39

DSL Mets2

Current record: 45-28, 2nd place in the DSL San Pedro de Macoris division
Games remaining: 0
Path to the Postseason: Eliminated on the final day of the season. They won their game Saturday morning, but so did the DSL Red Sox2, who began the day with a 1 game lead.
