Mets Organizational Playoff Odds, September 1st

Currently 5 affiliates in a good position to reach the postseason, including your New York Mets!

Reviewing the postseason chances for the Mets and their affiliates.

While the Mets still have about 6 weeks of baseball left, their minor league affiliates are closing in on their final 3 weeks, and all are in a good position to make a postseason run. I will be posting updates on what it will take for the Mets and their affiliates to make the postseason here.

New York Mets

Current record: 73-58, 1st place in the NL East
Games ahead: 6.5 Games ahead of Washington
Magic number: 26
Games remaining: 31
Path to the Postseason: Clinch the NL East. They have a nice lead in the division entering September, and an easy schedule the rest of the way. Just hold her steady Terry.

Las Vegas 51s

Current record: 74-63, 1st place in the PCL Pacific Southern division
Games ahead: 0.5 Games ahead of El Paso
Magic number: 8
Games remaining: 7
Path to the Postseason: El Paso has the same number of losses as Las Vegas with an extra game left on their schedule. The 51s need to finish ahead of them in the standings, because El Paso has an 8-5 head-to-head advantage with 3 games left between the two teams. Obviously if the 51s win all 3 games that advantage won’t matter (they’d have to look at runs or whatever the next tie-breaker is), but if they win all 3 then they will have a 3.5 game lead in the division with 4 games against Tacoma (65-72) left to play. While it’s mathematically possible to blow that lead, it’s highly improbable.

Binghamton Mets

Current record: 73-61, 2nd place in the EL Eastern division
Games behind/ahead: 5 Games behind Reading in the division; 4 Games ahead of Trenton
Magic number: 5
Games remaining: 7
Path to the Postseason: Maintain 2nd place in the division. It won’t be easy for Binghamton from here on out, because they face the top team in the league for the next 3 games (Reading, who sit at 78-56), and then head home to host an Altoona (71-64) team battling for a playoff spot in the West division for their final 4 games. Meanwhile, Trenton (69-65) has 3 left with an eliminated New Britain (64-69) team, and then finishes their season with 4 against an eliminated New Hampshire (64-68) team. Reading clinched a playoff spot on Monday night, and the Fightins would face Binghamton in the first round of the playoffs should they make it, so it’s possible that they might rest some of their key plays during the rest of the series, in which case the B-Mets will have caught a break.

St. Lucie Mets

Current record: 31-31, 4th place in the FSL South division 2nd half standings; 66-66 overall, 5th place
Games behind: 9.5 Games behind the Palm Beach Cardinals
Eliminated
Games remaining: 6
Potential promotions: Infielders Jeff McNeil, Matt Oberste, and Dominic Smith have had great seasons at the plate, and are potential fill-ins for the B-Mets or Las Vegas 51s – personally, I’d like to see all 3 everyday for the rest of the AA season. Victor Cruzado and Kyle Johnson are potential OF additions to either roster. Mike Hepple, Jake Kuebler, Kyle Regnault, and Kelly Secrest are potential RP additions to either roster. Logan Taylor could probably make a spot start for Binghamton if needed, or be moved to the bullpen for either roster.

Savannah Sand Gnats

Current record: 42-18, 1st place in the SAL Southern division 2nd half standings; 81-49 overall, 1st place
Games ahead: 7 Games ahead of Asheville, on the verge of clinching the 2nd half title
Games remaining: 8 (5 on MiLB.tv this weekend against Greenville!
Path to the Postseason: Clinched a spot with a first half division title! Playoffs begin 9/9.

Brooklyn Cyclones

Current record: 31-37, 4th place in the NYPL McNamara division
Games behind: 5 Games behind the Hudson Valley Renegades and Staten Island Yankees
Elimination number: 4
Games remaining: 8
Path to the Postseason: Win out and hope for a miracle.

Kingsport Mets

Current record: 39-28, 1st place in the Appy West division
Games ahead: 5.5 Games ahead of Greeneville, 6 ahead of Elizabethton
Games remaining: 1
Path to the Postseason: The division has been clinched! Playoffs start Thursday.

GCL Mets

Final record: 27-32, 3rd place, 7 Games out of 1st
Eliminated

DSL Mets1

Final record: 33-39, 5th place, 20 Games out of 1st
Eliminated

DSL Mets2

Final record: 45-27, 2nd place, 1 Game out of 1st
Eliminated
